Sophie Butterly

Sophie is from Ephrata, WA and graduated with her Bachelor’s from Gonzaga University. Sophie is currently doing a Post-Bacc program at WSU Spokane in Speech and Hearing Sciences. Growing up, Sophie participated in gymnastics for 6 years, including 2 years where she competed in Levels 4 and 5. Her favorite event is Beam. Sophie’s experience with kids includes coaching swimming lessons, working at a summer camp right outside of Yosemite, and volunteering as an elementary youth mentor at Gonzaga. Sophie started coaching at Spokane Gymnastics in 2024 and enjoys working with Instructional Gymnastics Level 1 & 2. Her favorite events to coach are Beam and Bars. Sophie describes her coaching style as giving lots of personalized encouragement. She believes constructive criticism is important but wants to make sure it’s equally matched with highlighting the student’s strengths and improvements. Sophie also likes to get to know her students and talk to them about their interests.

Outside of Spokane Gymnastics, Sophie enjoys doing anything outdoors, especially hiking, camping, and paddleboarding. She also loves to read, paint, crochet, and travel to explore new places. A fun fact about Sophie is that she studied abroad for 4 months in Florence, Italy!
